I actually find this show to be great
The first few episodes weren't anything phenomenal, but as the show furthered, it picked up steam. They found their footing, wrote out Oliver and the characters began to gel. I think the reason why people don't notice is the first few episodes are hard to swallow with all the changes. I just got finished watching the series for the first time and was expecting to be disappointed (which I was at first). However, I'm glad I kept going. Examples of great episodes are Dorothy's visit, where Rose dates someone that looks like her late husband, when Blanche's mentally handicapped brother comes to visit, the episode with Stan and the episode where they think a serial killer is staying at the hotel.
I think the reason so many people tuned out was largely because of already missing Dorothy and them writing in the jarring episode of Miles cheating so early on. It was only the 3rd episode and they tried to do too much too quickly. I was ready to call it quits after that and am glad I didn't.
