Why was Schanke written out?

Did John Kapelos want to pursue other projects? Or was he written out to make room for new characters?

reply

John has told fans that he had been with the show for six years and felt it was time to leave to pursue other projects.

Thank you! :)

He only did two seasons. How does that add up to six years.

He had been involved with the show since the original pilot movie, Nick Knight (1989).
1989-1995=6 years

Good reply. Thanks

He had been on the pilot movie, then did two years on the show.

Your counting the almost 3 year gap between the original pilot to the tv series. If you look at it like that it makes sense. There was no show to be directly involved with during that gap so i don't really count it.

Kapelos was told he'd have to take a huge pay cut if he wanted to return for the third season. He didn't think it was worth it so he refused. This was in addition to the network wanting to change focus on the story to attract a younger audience.

What they actually did was repeat the same storyline: handsome male vampire and female attracted to him. It turned out to be Vachon and Tracy, Knight and Natalie all over again.

The Powers That Be wanted to fire the actor that played Natalie, too. Geraint Wyn Davies said that he'd quit if they did that so that didn't happen. The show went on for one more year and had the saddest ending of any series ever.

One film and 2 seasons does not at all equal 6 years. Its less than 3 years total steady work on series. I've no doubt he was free to pursue other things between. Very dissapointed with his leaving
