Season 6 Questions (Where's Sully & Reverend's Appearance)

I'm watching Season 6 for the first time and was wondering, why is Sully missing from so many episodes? Was the actor off filming something else at the time? Or did he just take time off?

And what has happened to the Reverend's appearance? His face looks distinctively different. He's pale, his bottom lip looks a little stiff (he seems to lick it a lot) and I swear, in some of the episodes, it looks like his hair and facial hair are fake. Something's just off. Any details about that would be much appreciated.

EDIT: Also, why did they replace the actress who played the teacher?

Others can answer better on these but I've gathered that Joe Lando didn't get along with Beth Sullivan very well and so for season 6 he went to part time, or something to that effect. In fact at the end of season 5, John Schneider was brought in for Daniel to be a potential love interest for Michaela in case Joe Lando didn't return after his @r$e over applecart off that cliff. That was a way to write him out should he decide not to return for season 6. Or something like that.

I'm not sure about Geoffrey Lower's appearance, perhaps it had to do with the Reverend's blindness, I'm not sure. I didn't really notice to be honest. I know some of the men (with the exception of Sully and Hank, who just would have been out of character with a significant haircut) bugged me a little when their hair was longer. I always thought they looked much better with a shorter 'do. That's just my preference though.

I believe Michelle Bonilla was replaced with Alex Meneses because Ms Bonilla didn't mesh with the cast at all. I have to say between the two of them I much preferred Alex Meneses, Michelle Bonilla's portrayal was just cold and distant and didn't elicit very much sympathy from me, in spite of her tragic first episode, because to be blunt, Teresa Morales under her portrayal was just a judgemental self-righteous bitch, and because of that cold distance, she stood out from every other character (even Hank) like a sore thumb. Had Alex Meneses portrayed her from the start I think she would have been a lot easier for me to like her first season there.

As I said though, others can answer much better than I can!

Sounds about right to me. I also heard that Joe Lando didn't like how Sully was being written in the fifth season, which was the main reason he didn't want to do the show anymore. I'm really glad he stayed long enough to do what he did. It really wouldn't have worked without him being there at all, imho. I think at this point, he's really happy he was in the show since Sully was his best role so far and has probably earned him a ton of money.

"How was the war, sir?"
"As any war, ma'am, a waste of good men." (Poldark)
