Thoughts on season 1

I'm only now watching season one although I've seen most of three and four. I decided to go back to the beginning to see how it all began. I liked "Epidemic" and Dr. Mike trying to explain germs to the locals. And Jake's "medical" techniques! I'm surprised that anyone is still alive in CS with Dr. Jake around lol. Even in that episode he killed one guy. Also chuckled when Dr. Mike said something about the new "white chief" Custer, something like he can't be that bad lol.

Season 1 is my favorite. I love everything you mention.

I kinda agree with you although I loved the rest of it, too. But the first season was pretty magical with the love story just starting with Mike and Sully, and the kids were so cute, too. I just thought Brian was adorable.

Just watched Rite Of Passage. Very good episode but Dr. Mike was rather annoying in her over the top objection to Matthew being with Ingrid and not wanting to go to college. And she'd only known him for a few months. Seemed out of character to me.

Well, when you consider her having gone from her fancy life in Boston to this little "shack" as her mother called it, perhaps she felt passionate that the children get enough education so they could have a better life than that.

To me, her reaction made sense. Michaela was a very practical woman, and she knew that however much in love they were, that love was not going to support Matthew and Ingrid. That without financial means, they'd end up in poverty with a bunch of kids they couldn't feed, as she so bluntly put it in the episode.

I actually love that scene in the homestead between M&M, when they're fighting about his future. It's very raw and honest, revealing the true feelings of both people on the topic. I was also taken aback by how mean Matthew was here, calling her a spinster to her face, and felt that he should have apologized to her, or at least expressed remorse for that outburst.

Agreed. After all, she agreed to take over raising these kids, and even though he was older, he still wasn't an adult, and he should have had more respect for the sacrifices she had made for him and his siblings.

My husband and I are binge watching season 1 now. I think it’s my favorite season. I admire how hard Dr. Mike had to work to be accepted just to treat patients for even the simplest things. It took a lot of guts to stay when the town clearly wants you gone. I also love how she treats Indians too with the same love and care as everyone else
