AMERCIA EDITED A JAPANESE GIRLS SHOW TO AVOID EXCESSIVE VIOLENCE

I just want to make a correction. The dub is Canadian, not American.

really? the dub is canadian and not from USA?

reply

Actually you should be blaming America because the company, DiC, that did the dubbing was American. They hired Canadian voice actors and I doubt they made up the script on the spot! DiC, which is in fact an American company, obviously wrote the script and did the editing.

Okay, but DiC is now under the ownership of a Canadian business named DHX.

I still blame U.S.A.

TV animations has been outsourced to other countries since the 1960s, before Chuck Jones got a job at MGM, Tom and Jerry (from Switchin' Kitten to Carmen Get It) was outsourced to some country in Europe. Rocky and Bullwinkle was outsourced to Gamma Productions in Mexico. Hanna-Barbara outsourced to Taiwan. Arthur is headquartered in Boston but it outsources to Canada for voice actors and other countries for Animation.

but when U.S.A. imports shows, look at how well they are treated.

Whether it is Gatchaman, Lolo The Penguin, "Milo and Otis", and Kimba The White Lion. Even when they don't translate the original credits.

and now Sailor Moon? It probably happens to EVERY show. This inspires me to learn other languages.

Canada is technically part of America, North America that is, But still it's America. United States is not the only part of America.

Not sure if it was American or Canadian but they do this alot. The latest examples are Naruto, DBZ(remember the bloody mouths controversy?), and the Gundam series.

Americans and Japanese just have different thresholds of what children are exposed too. For instance, the anime Bleach is targeted toward audiences 16 and up in the US. In Japan, it's more for teens 13+.

It wasn't just violence. They removed so much gayness from the show that it stayed stored up and eventually burst forth in a wave of gay marriage across the North American continent. All that stored up gayness had to go somewhere, so it went to the alter. Truth.

What do you expect, North Ameri and a lot of Canada are a very protestant and puritanical nation.
