It's probably a silly thing to do but I just prefer to look at the original show, as seen on Fox, and the revamped Kids WB version as two different series, almost like alternate versions of each other.
Does anyone else do this?
While I liked both series, I can see where you're coming from. The New Adventures of Batman was a tad more childish, but even it had a dark vibe.

Well it had the more stylized art look to it, and I guess more of the bat family.
two things I hated though.
1) Scarecrow - don't get me wrong - his look with the sack and the hangman noose was creepy..I just hated that it came so late into the series, it's obvious from his other appearances they didn't really know how to draw him in a way was creepy but not overly.
2) Bruce Wayne's redesign. Obviously with the Superman animated series they came up with a look for clark that made him look similar to Bruce, but it was BTAS that was there first and had it not been for it's success that WB would have thrown money money down for Superman. It doesn't bother me so much now that I'm older but as a kid...
Agree completely, TNBA isn't "horrible" per se but it's so far removed from BTAS (in terms of design AND quality) that it's hard to see them in the same universe. And yet DCAU geeks insist, to the point where they call it BETTER just because Bruce Timm goes on about how much he prefers it for some reason. These seem to be the same people who don't even know who Eric Radomski is and credit the success of the shows to Paul Dini and Timm exclusively.
shareHe prefers it?? Why? The more I know about him the more Bruce Timm becomes unlikable, and it often happens that some artists really need to be moderated and suppressed somewhat in order to be really good, maybe that's his case.
shareI would argue TNBA has one of the darkest episodes ever. In over the edge, we had a whole sequences of Commissioner Gordon and his men trying to take down Batman. Then we have the reveal that Batgirl died. Then we have the whole thing where Gordon makes a deal with Bane to take down Batman (Probably the only really great Bane moment in the whole series imo) and then Batman and Gordon end up getting killed by Bane throwing a large object at them causing them to fall of the roof of the building to their deaths. Of course it's revealed it was all just a bad dream by Batgirl who had been drugged by Scarecrow. But it's damn dark.
