Anyone else find that odd?

Yes a bit odd but think of the times. it was a way for cheap entertainment. This movie was based on a true story about a 14 year old durning the depression with big dreams.

Hey folks,

I first saw the girl on the diving horse at the Steel Pier in Atlantic City well over 50 years ago, and it was an act I looked forward to watching every time I went to the Steel Pier. No, I don't see anything any more "odd" about the diving girl and horse than I do when I see horses used in races, steeplechase events, rodeo riding, polo, and any other involvement between man and horse. Can horses be abused in these events? Certainly, but these interactions between man and horse can also be based on great love and consideration for the animal.

We once lived next to folks who had several horses they bred and used in rodeo events, and they obviously cared very much for them. I never had the same feeling for them as my neighbors did, but I certainly did enjoy watching the horses, feeding and petting them at times, and watching them work together at barrel racing.

Best wishes,
Dave Wile

When I first saw this movie, I was horrified. I've read that, even at the time, animal welfare organizations were fighting the attraction. People were weird back then and thought of animals differently...I mean this is not too long after an elephant was electrocuted, live and publicly, on the boardwalk in AC as a way of promoting the new invention if electricity. Bizarre.
