She was so dirty, unkempt... (potential SPOILERS)

I love La Sarandon, but her character was so dirty and unkempt in this, I found it hard to envision her as attractive to anyone, much less a well-heeled (and not to mention polished) yuppie. If I were in his shoes, I would've been reticent to disrobe AND have sex in her filthy domicile. Finding the sandwich under the bed, mid-coitus would have sent me over the edge. I would have left that place in a heartbeat and headed straight for the Mayfair where I would have had my clothes laundered (or burned), my unmentionables fumigated, and rinsed the filth off my body. Disgusting!

I absolutely agree with you, amanjones. Word for word. After I watched this movie, these are exactly the things I wanted to say. You read my mind. I was like "Wow, he's gonna get crabs, head-lice, eczema, what not, so burn the clothes, shave whole body and use disinfectant, man.....!"

And there was absolutely nothing "attractive" about her, whatsoever. On the contrary, she was REPULSIVE. It's not believable that the guy gets tuned on by filth and biohazard. That woman is a frog-eyed piggy prune.
Her unshaved arm-pit made me puke.

I always feel really stupid when I read boards like this. Simply because I never question these things. I love the movie, but I never wondered why he was attracted to her. I'm going to re-watch it tonight and try to figure it out, lol.

I agree. I just went along with the story. I know plenty of ordinary real live people whose homes are like this. I don't admire it but I dont' judge people on it because I don't have to live in their environment. However, this being a movie, I never once questioned why he would become attracted to her. She was sexy and fiery and her home habits fit the lifestyle of a woman who had suffered tragedy and abandonment and allowed alcohol to become her best friend. Don't forget, she dragged him to her home while he was drunk so he was wasn't in his right mind to begin with when they first became acquainted intimately. By the time he was sober, he'd already begin to have some feelings for her even if it was only lust. Then he brings her a mini vac so she could clean up her place but seeing how orderly he was at home, he wouldn't even have come back to her dirty place if he didn't at least have feelings for her.

The OP sounds like one of Maxx's stuffy and uppity friends haha.

If people stopped being attracted to other people based on how untidy another person was...explain how dudes in college are forever getting laid.

Also unless you skipped over a significant scene...Nora did clean up. There's the scene where she gave he living room a complete clean up. When she was alone and without "love" of anyone hey she gave up..(although as in the book she was obsessive about her bathroom being clean and orderly..this was not emphasized in the movie)...

Zachary Quinto is ridiculously sexy! Robert Downey Jr....is pure sex!
