I love Call of the Wild (the novel) and had an inkling that the dog in the beginning of this was book - obviously backed up when later on the men set him on White Fang and call him Buck.
I've looked all over and havent found a good Call of the Wild film like this White Fang.
Why didnt they make one?
They did make "Call Of The Wild" first with Clark Gable in 1935

Thread is so so old you may not see but there was a telemovie made in 1997 that is a really good telling of Call of the Wild
