Jed was a pure Alaskan malamute, no wolf at all in him.

He was an animal actor trained for these parts, a very good one at that. He never had any wolf mixed in his ancestory, and no he doesnt look like a wolfdog either, he looks pure malamute, ask a malamute breeder. Better yet ask a wolf or wolfdog sanctuary about his appearance. He had spray on make up on his coat to make him appear wolfier. Nothing about his build, his feet, he face, his snout, his teeth, his eyes, ear shape, the width of his chest, his heavy built body, his tail, and color looks like a wolf.

i've seen malamutes. my friend growing up always had one. with that said, jed looks darn wolfy to me. i'm no expert. possibly the pure malamutes you speak of are so close to what most people think of when imagining a wolf that they're convinced. to you and breeders the differences are clear, but to me and many others jed looks wolfy. possibly malamutes that are more popular, such as my friend's, aren't anywhere near jed's bloodline.

i would bet money the average viewer thought jed was either a wolf, or had wolf in him. most aren't malamute elitists as yourself. lol

i love retrievers, collies, and huskies, so i'm not one to judge wolf characteristics.

i own a malamute too, i wanted it since the day i saw this movie when i was about six... they're grrrrrrreat dogs, but need lot of attention. as a puppy mine has destroyed the photocells of our home gate so that we couldn't get into the garage with our cars till the day we repaired...by the way the whole family loves our dog. and yes i can say i grew up with this movie!!!!!!!

According to his IMDb page (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1058600/) he was a Malamute/wolf cross. Doesn't say how recent his wolf ancestry was.

It is very difficult to tell that a dog has absolutely no wolf blood in him from just looking at him, especially with the northern breeds or if the wolf blood comes from several generations back. This is why many owners of wolfdogs can get away with claiming their pooch has no wolf blood to avoid panicking neighbors and laws prohibiting such ownership.

lol, and where's your sources for saying that? because everywhere else claims that he's a hybrid. the research all says, hybrid. he looks damn well like a hybrid if you ask me, and i've done extensive study on this subject, as i've been considering adopting one for several years now.

also, it's just like the person above said, in a lot of cases it's nearly impossible to tell if one is a hybrid or not just by looking at them.

in any case, i'd take the word of the people who owned/bred/raised him over some random person on an IMDB board xD

Anyone looking for a wolf/domestic crossbreed is obviously an idiot.

He's just talking out of his ass obviously. PUREbred malamute all have, that well defined mask in their face, and a typical color pattern in their coat, which White Fang didn't have.

100% sure the idiot didn't do his research and probably mistaken White Fang in this movie for White Fang in the television series, which cast a full blooded Alaskan Malamute.

huh yeah he did have some wolf in him. Not that much, but he did ... Pure malamute don't even look like that at all. Spray make up lmfao ... that's the funniest thing I've ever heard. To the dog park i go, the guy there know that dude who had Jed back in the days, and he was indeed a wolf mix. When you don't know what you're talking about without fact, it's better just to not say anything..

My family raises Malamutes and Jed is too big to be pure Malamute. The red tones in his fur also give away his heritage, probably part Mexican Gray Wolf.

Yep I have to agree he looks pretty wolfy to me.

Would you consider German shepherds wolf dogs? They are a quarter wolf.
