I like both versions...

they are completely different.
The original is Davis and Crawford..you can just feel the hatred and it was a very dark and serious film.
The remake with the Redgrave sisters...I think it was done "tongue and cheek".. at least that's how I feel... to me it was more of a comedy...Lynn Redgrave was hysterically funny...the Davis character was just a bitch and nasty and mean and the Lynn Redgrave part was, I think, insane. There was no humor with Davis, but with Lynn, I laughed through the whole film.
Vanessa... is just great in anything she does.

The 1962 original was meant to be more of a drama/thriller kind of film, in fact that's why Robert Aldrich decided to film it black and white, as they all though that tragedy shouldn't be colourful.
But I totally agree with you, I did enjoy this totally different version of this classic drama. It was definitely more of a comedy and I think the costume (especially Jane's) made the whole thing much more funnier than you would think.
Plus, I was positively surprised by the quality of a TV movie as such.
