cut hoofs?

I just watched it today for my Spain and its contemporary cinema. I think he cut the hoofs because he was crazy. This movie really sucked.

Do you remember he said the cow was about to die or something, or that it was sick and when he was doing the painting peru said you haven't drawn the hoofs so he knew he was going to do it (to put it out of it's misery), but you could also say he was a little mad...
