One of the Worst

This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

Here's a true story:
Back in 1991 I worked for General Cinema in Newton MA. My theatre was in the same building as the corporate offices so occasionally we would screen movies for special executives. Some employees would be invited to help open the theatre early and serve the guests, in return we got to see a film a couple weeks before anyone else. V.I. Warshawski was one I got to see.
I saw the first half before I had to leave to complete the opening. I remarked to the projectionist that the first half was terrible, he said that the second was even worse (I saw it later, he was right.) When it was done the executives came out and milled around the lobby. One older gentleman asked me what I thought. I gave him the truth: it was terrible and bound to be in-and-out of the theatre within two weeks (actually it was three.) He ran to the manager and complained that I had offended him. I told the manager that it was simply honest opinion. It turned out the man was the father of one of the producers! Oh well. I wish I could have seen him a month later and given him a big "I told you so."

I saw it today.

Did you get in trouble?

"how about... a royal flush!" *loren avedon kicks a cauldron of boiling water into the bad guys*

reply

No I didn't. The manager understood that it was my opionion and the executive asked for it. "Be careful what you ask for, you may get it." The manager was a reasonable guy, probably one of the best I've ever worked for. Of course running a theatre is far easier than running any kind of regular retail store.

Apparently Sara Paretsky, who created Warshawski, had little to no involvement in the film. When she was younger, she sold the rights, but didn't really know what she was doing. She was pleased with Turner being cast as V.I. though. The film is no reflection of the book at all. Anyone who read even one book can tell the books are far superior and Vic is a much more interesting and three-dimensional character.

Hi there.

Doing well ?

I really like Kathleen Turner. I saw her in London with "Who is affraid of Virginia Woolf", and watched a lot of great movies such as "War of the Roses", but..

That movie "V.I Warshawski" is pretty bad to me.. I watched it yesterday evening and was really disappointed.

Kathleen is okay in the movie, she can give much more but the screenplay does not give her the opportunity to. The screenplay is as lazy as a "A-Team" one. A murder, who did that, what for ? To sell to billionaires and be rich, that's all. Oh no... the mother's story.. Pathetic.. Sick should I say ?

I don't mind Kathleen being "macho" and fighting against men when she needs to, that's okay, but come on, that scene where she is being punched by the 2 maffiosi was not useful.. How can you show that ?

It happens in life (unfortunately), okay, but you don't have to show it. A lady being punched by two bad and cowards maffiosi, why showing that ? It shocks me since I can't support when a woman is being beaten. They maybe showed this so you can understand why she has no pitty for them, okay but that's really so manipulating people.. And you can beat and hit a man without being as ugly as him. Don't play the game to lower yourself.

The movie ends up like "We hope you enjoyed this because we are already working on the sequel !!"

No I did not. Kathleen Turner is a great actress and she can do much better than this simple minded movie. She is a great lady with great attitude, and be bad and nasty as the maffiosi is not very smart. Ugly violence to ugly violence is not a solution. That's what we learn when we're kid. But that's what the movie shows..

Women are too beautiful to act like nasty-ugly persons, don't play their games ladies. Much of men don't even act like these ugly and cowards persons.

The music of the movie is just as simple as a Sunday afternoon TV cops movie with B actors, which is good, but come one, that's a real movie for theatre..

Kathleen can do much better than this. She is my favourite actress actually.

I love Kathleen, so that movie sucks to me.

Below average..

Thank you for reading this if you did :)

Have a nice day.

This "movie" was really a mixup of two of the books. The result was terrible. I'd still like to see the book series on film. They are VERY good stories...

My wife & I saw part of this movie in a theatre when it was a first run release. This is what happened. It was so bad that after about 45 minutes I actually fell asleep. I don't know how long I was out, but I must have been snoring because I made some sort of snorting noise and it woke me up. I turned and looked at my wife and she too was sleeping with her head tilted way down. I nudged her awake and we quickly exited the theatre.

I recall being very eager to see this film as I had rerad ALL the books AND was a Huge fan of Turners...but I do agree that it was a pile of absolute drek. It is soooo sad because the books ARE wonderful...maybe Masterpiece Theater?

That's me too, I had a girl crush on her since seeing Body Heat back in the early 80s and I LOVED the VI series of books. Major disappointment. I wish they'd consider remaking this.

VI Warshawski is actually one of the few movies I did not watch till the end. Boring but also annoying in terms of the stereotypes.

That's a great story, and I'm glad you didn't get sacked.

The producer's father sounds like a jerk. What a big baby. Did he expect you to get fired simply for giving an honest opinion to his question? It sounds like the producer's father needed to be a bit more honest with him instead of filling his head full of hot-air. It's that type of uncritical parenting that results in mediocrities churning out sub-par 'art' because "daddy and mommy said it was good."

The sets of this movie looked cheap and fake. I have, of course, never seen a porno movie, but if I had, I bet the sets would have looked just about as fake and cheap as those in this movie.

Well nuts, I liked it

Some folks just don't like strong women, eh?
