It deserves at least an 8 on imdb. Acting is great, script is great, and it avoids the usual cliches of the indie-crowd film. Highly recommended.

Agreed. I've watched this movie countless times since its release almost 20 years ago & it's always not only watchable, I have to see it through til the end every time. I can't thank Hal Hartley enough for making this gem.
