Widescreen or fullscreen?

The only DVDs for this film that I can find have a 1.33:1 (fullscreen) aspect ratio. However, according to IMDb...

Aspect ratio
1.33 : 1 (intended ratio)
1.85 : 1 (theatrical ratio)

Does this mean that the film is supposed to be 1.85:1, or was it cropped like that for some reason for the theatre? (It's the word "intended" that's throwing me off - was the film really intended to be 1.33:1?)

The DVD Beaver review suggests that it was filmed with a 1.33:1 ratio: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/Reviews/tmd.htm. If that is true then sadly it is likely that the widescreen version is cropped. I hope this isn't true but I never saw this film theatrically so I can't confirm it.
