Watching Over Nina

If Jamie's purpose was to essentially provide a sense of comfort and then get her to a point where she moves along, was he essentially watching over Nina when she wasn't looking? My heart skipped a beat when Nina was "caught" enjoying herself with Mark and she saw a cellist that looked liked Jamie. He ended up looking like someone else after a couple seconds but I think it was Jamie trying to see how far away she'd pulled away from him. When she came home and asked him about it he acted none the wiser but I felt like he had to have known that more that just annoying habits were going to push them apart. What does anybody else think?
