Baby dolphin real??

I really liked this movie, but I've never been able to watch it more than once ( I rented it right after it came out on video) because of the scene in which the "bad guy" clubs the baby dolphin (I think it was a dolphin?). That really bothered me, and then in the movie's closing credits there was not the disclaimer you see nowadays about monitoring by the American Humane Association. I guess that means either the dolphin was fake, or it was real and wasn't monitored by the AHA? This still bothers me.

I thought it was nursling shark.

how far into the movie is this? what scene/s come just before it? want to watch but don't want to see that... :/

reply

It was a shark and it would have been caught and killed humanely (if there is such a thing) before filming that scene. He would have been clubbing an already dead shark with fake blood inside it to make the scene more real.

Horrible to watch but within the context of the film you needed to see real fear o n Cusack's face as he realizes just what kind of people he has allowed himself to become involved with.

Except isn't clubbing a fish what your SUPPOSED to do when fishing for large fish/small sharks? So are all big game fisherman evil corrupt businessmen?

It was a small shark and clubbing is the way to kill it. Think about it - you're in a boat, you can't be shooting it or stabbing it, you could sink the boat. Plus it's rocking with the waves and difficult to land a good shot.

It's a shark. Trust me on this one.
