Good Direction, Nostalgia, Pride, Wish I was there

I first saw this movie in the fray of my own adolescence so it was easy to comprehend and make comparisons. Although I had no real consistencies such as growing up in boarding school or being dealt a privileged/albeit wanderlust childhood; I feel like connecting with this film comes very easy to the average Joe. It does so by dropping you in the middle of genuine friendship, camaraderie and teamwork. It does so in such a magnetic way you personally feel like part of the resistance as its unfolding. Ultimately these friends team together to overcome evil in spite of their politically corrupt upbringing and you cheer for them as they overcome adversity as if they were so incredibly born for that independence. Lately I go back and watch my 90's favorites in woe, but this one held tight on it's characters, acting, filmography, editing, etc. It doesn't need special FX. It was well made then and remains a good film now. Still love it at age 32.

This came out right before I graduated high school so I was the same age as them in the movie. I connected with it because you could imagine what you would do if you were in that situation since I was the same age at the time. I did the same thing with Red Dawn where I always thought where I'd go and what I'd do if something like that happened as well. I watch this today and can still connect with it because of seeing it at a young age, it is a bit dumber and cheesier then I remember but still good. Funny how much I really liked it when it came out though, I used to watch it like once a week once I bought it on VHS. Then around 1996 to 97 I just stopped watching it, but I'd seen it so many times by then it didn't matter. What's funny is then how much time goes by before I watched it again, it was around 2014 and a whole flood of memories come pouring back when watching it. Lol so funny to think about all that today, makes me laugh. Funny how much the movie doesn't change but how much you yourself change and it makes the movie seem a bit different.
