Terrorist's dad's murder = mob hit?

One thing I have always been curious about in the film, is if the terrorist's father being murdered in prison was a mob hit. After Joey is killed, his father is shown telling fellow mobster's that the terrorists need to learn that there is no such thing is an accident. Was the guy's death in prison a coincedence due to the riot, or was the riot intentionally started due to the fact that it was a mob hit?

I think we can be pretty sure that it was a mob hit but again I'm not sure how the riot came into it. It could be the mob had someone on the inside, maybe one of the guards to try and orchestrate the riot but I guess we'll never know!

I am thinking that the mob had a guy on the inside at the prison, and I think you're right that it was the guard, because he has a suspicious look on his face before he pulls the lever to let the prisoners out, so I say yes, the murder of the terrorists father was a mob hit orchestrated by Joey Trottas Dad

The riot was definitely organized to cover the hit. The thing I've never understood is why did they do it. By ordering the hit he is effectively sentencing all the other boys to die. I can't see any father living with that on their conscience. I think they would have waited until the situation was resolved and then take out the entire crew including the head guy.

Good point, but I'd guess that the general public (including Joey's father and the mob) are not aware that Luis Cali has wired the whole school to blow if he doesn't get his pops back. The people on the outside probably only know that there is a hostage situation, and that it's serious, but they don't know the depths to which Cali is willing to go for his father. I think only the military know that he'll blow up the school if they don't give him his dad back.

However, if they did know, that's pretty f'in wreckless. Even the mob wouldn't risk one hit for the lives of hundreds. Or would they?!

And you can deal with me; Doug Masters!
