DVD?

Has there been a DVD released for this film? None available at Amazon.com (except VHS). None at Netflix. Has it been released in Europe? And if so how could I acquire it? How can I find out if there are plans for its release? After all Jordi Savall's music is hugely popular among devotees of early music. How might I campaign for its release?

reply

It's my most beloved film ever. And I've got it for a birthday present three years ago. I remember my husband got it from amazon.fr. It's only in french. And without subtitles. My french is very poor. But since I've seen the film for two times in cinema and on TV also and read the novel I think I know enough about the plot. And don't forget the whole movie is most amazing music and fabulous pictures and great actors with faces speaking every language. You would understand it also completely if it where in mandarin. But since I've read here on this thread it will be brought out by amazon this march ... Think I'll look there soon. Perhaps there will be a german version too?

I'm excited to see this too. I never saw it originally, but my parents did and they bought the soundtrack, and it is gorgeous. Can't wait.

Any info on a European release (Region 2)? I'm a little reluctant to polish up my French and buy the version without subtitles.

Easily one of my favourite movies.

The Koch Lorber DVD from America is actually Region Free!
Double disc and the quality is stunning!

reply

It's now available through Netflix.

I have seen this for an astronomical price on ebay - so it is somewhere out there in Region 2 - but where? Amazon UK don't stock it. I've only seen US sites selling it in Region 1 format. Can anyone help with a site selling to Europe for a normal price? Desperately want it as Christmas gift for partner, but can't/won't pay over the odds.

reply

As already indicated, The U.S. release (Koch Lorber, 2 discs) is Region-free. I own it. It can be ordered from some European sellers as well, like Axelmusic dot com.

There's a copy for check-out at the Palm Desert Library, Palm Desert, California. It's two discs. It's free for check-out.
