I don't know about in general but somebody compared their end in the movie to the end of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

for someone who hates this movie as much as you do, you sure spent a lot of time on this board. what's it matter to you? you aren't even in the target audience.

I'm surprised no one said Fight Club! Both movies contain elements of people's actions and morals drifting into an alternate reality. And both have the interpersonal dynamic where both are initiating the action. And finally, only the last part of T&L is the suicide. The vast majority of both movies was spent on the characters revealing and developing new aspects of their personal in the context of collective experience.

When i look at this question, the first movie that comes to mind is "Midnight Run". It's from the mid to late 80's and it's Robert DeNiro and Charles Grodin. De Niro is a detective who is escorting Grodin from New York to Los Angeles so he can face a jury, so the plot is very similar in the road buddy genre.
