Can you imagine if this movie had been made today?

These days, it literally isn't possible to write the word 'feminism' without starting a flame war. The only thing it takes for a movie to be labelled 'feminist propaganda' is for one of the main characters to be female.

If Thelma & Louise had been made today, just... oh my god... can you imagine what the reaction would be like? The conservatives, neo-nazis, MRAs, MGTOWs, PUAs, Nice Guys, incels, gamergaters, neoreactionaries, Trump-supporters, etc. would go absolutely ape$hit. About 76 foaming-at-the-mouth rants about it would be published on Breitbart, Captain Capitalism, Chateau Heartiste, Matt Forney.com, Return of Kings, Stares at the World, a Voice For Men and Vox Populi, to say nothing of several dozen YouTube videos in which neckbearded Bay Area technolibertarians spelled out its evulz for us whilst occasionally stopping to gripe about fat women and Muslim immigration. Ridley Scott would be labelled a 'beta male', a 'mangina', a 'cuck', a 'SJW', a 'Jew' and a 'cultural Marxist' attempting to orchestrate the downfall of western civilization. Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon would be inundated with rape and murder threats. All three would be doxed. It'd all be so histrionic that the news would comment on it.

All of the above happened with Mad Max: Fury Road. It happened with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It's happening right now with Ghostbusters. And those weren't/aren't even explicitly feminist - they just featured/feature women in action roles. If Thelma & Louse, a movie which was explicitly feminist, and in which all male characters (save the sheriff) were portrayed in an explicitly disparaging manner, the fury would be multiplied tenfold to the point of breaking the internet.

Just wait. I'll bet you my bottom dollar that the people I listed will turn up in the replies to validate every point I've just made...

Please do not let it be remade. If they remake it, it would not be as good as it used to be. The original is the original. As really however you are right about that. But those were the times back then.

Happy Easter!

I don't know about that, but liberals labelled Ridley Scott a racist for that Exodus movie a year ago.
Besides, Jimmy was quite sweet I think.

Well said. Iw would also be called "PC".

I agree. These new films do nothing for me. They make is all full and Rambo like. I loved Sarah conner, Buffy and charmed growing up. They were my idols and felt like real strong women.

I love this post so much that I emailed it to myself.
The conservatives, neo-nazis, MRAs, MGTOWs, PUAs, Nice Guys, incels, gamergaters, neoreactionaries, Trump-supporters are some of the most vile creatures out there...dont they realize that they are only alienating women?

ARE YOU A GUY? IF SO, I HOPE YOU REPRODUCE AT AN ALARMING RATE. 😜
First time I see someone posting such an intelligent argument.

That's today's rethuglican party. The more they hate, the better they feel about themselves. It's a sickness that may take over the country. God help us.

Wow, you & the OP are really brainwashed by the lying Left, aren't you? The only thing Conservatives, Trump-supporters and Independents hate are the glaring lies, slander & corruption of the Left, aka Dems/Libs.

I like "Thelma & Louise" just fine, as far as it being an entertaining movie. I was on the side of the two heroines until they foolishly chose to become fugitive criminals and pointlessly commit suicide. Contrary to what some clueless people think, the film isn't really empowering for females, unless making rash, stupid decisions and RUINING YOUR LIFE is empowering. The flick is amusing, dramatic and scenic, yet ultimately tragic.

The real abusive misogynists are on the Left, e.g. Harvey Weinstein, Jeffrey Epstein, Bill Cosby, Anthony Weiner and Bill Clinton.

Oh yes it does - it gets worse.

what, you mean the rabid, alt-right, women haters are shouting louder than ever?
or that there are even more films with those damn women in them that should be in the kitchen?

reply

there are more and more shouty people - or perhaps (hopefully?) it's the same number of shouty people (plus their sock puppets) just shouting louder.
