Black Lives Matter Dyson

Are we gonna address the 400 lb elephant in the room?

reply

LOL! You mean how Dyson gets somewhat unceremoniously killed off? Honestly that did always bother me. It's like all this build up and drama with Sarah trying to kill him & (almost succeeding) only to come to her senses at the last minute when she realizes she's about to murder an innocent man in front of his wife and son. All that just to more or less force him to assist them in what is essentially a terrorist attack, which gets him killed anyway, never to be mentioned again. A traumatized widow & son, forced to grow up with the stigma of his father being falsely vilified as a mad man /terrorist. Well damn. Probably would have been better off if Sarah had just killed him outright.

reply

To be fair the point was that Dyson sacrificed himself to save humanity just as the Terminator later did.

reply

Well sure but that has no bearing on the disturbing in universe ramifications of this, which were pretty much ignored in the film. While John & Sarah get a happy ending, Dyson's wife & son have to live with the trauma and stigma surrounding his death for the rest of their lives. It was pretty much the only thing I didn't like about the movie.

reply

I agree, now Danny and Mrs. Dyson are now without a husband and a father and that was never addressed.

reply

"Dyson's wife & son have to live with the trauma and stigma surrounding his death for the rest of their lives. It was pretty much the only thing I didn't like about the movie."

SERIOUSLY? As the head manager of the entire Skynet project, I'm sure that once the events of Judgment Day occurred, Humanity as a whole would be CURSING the Dyson family for still being alive, ANY of them, because the head of the family caused the deaths of so many billions with his handiwork. At best, they would be pariahs, at worst, they would be hunted down and killed by the survivors.

I would think that by sacrificing himself to destroy his life's work and preventing it from being so destructive to Humanity, he would redeem himself and his family, even if Humanity never found out how it could've been.

reply

The conclusion of this film clearly suggests that Judgement Day has been prevented from ever happening. I'm basing my opinions on that. I'm not factoring in the ever contradictory sequels, spin offs and reboots.

reply

I'd also like to add that what makes it even more tragic is that Dyson's "sacrifice" was not only unnecessary but not even truly his choice. He was a reluctant participant at best (if not an outright hostage) who even tries to back out at one point but is pressured (perhaps even subtly threatened) to continue with the plan.

reply

Like I said in the other topic the cops pumped him full of lead instead of negotiating.

reply

How in the hell do you reckon that? Dyson thought he was doing good, but he never reckoned on having a cyborg from the future with his tech to come back from the future to tell him he was responsible for billions of deaths BECAUSE of his tech, with the de-gloved arm to prove it. That would make anyone try to correct the mistake, unless of course they were completely amoral, as Dyson wasn't.

reply

Dyson was certainly willing to give up his life's work & shut everything down but was decidedly coerced into going above & beyond that at the expense of his life, destroying his family and reputation as a result

reply

"but was decidedly coerced into going above & beyond that at the expense of his life, destroying his family and reputation as a result"

As I remember it, Dyson got cold feet at the security being tripped, and perhaps was afraid of the police coming to arrest him and throw his ass in jail, or even worse. And that did come to pass, although Dyson was brave enough to not surrender himself to the cops after being shot multiple times, and was willing to blow himself up to save humanity from Skynet. As I said.

Destroying his family? Sure, they would've been without a father or a breadwinner, but then they would've understood why he did what he did, for the greater good.

Reputation? Are you serious? What's WRONG with you?

reply

If it was up to him he wouldn't have put himself in such a dangerous position that led to his death but as I said he was coerced into it & wasn't allowed to walk away when he tried. Sacrificing his life wasn't his choice. He knew he was mortally wounded & had little choice but to die following through with the blowing the lab.

Any real life family wouldn't be even remotely understanding of armed strangers showing up with fantastical claims & basically kidnapping their husband/father to be an accomplice in something that gets him killed and branded a criminal to add insult to injury.

"Reputation? Are you serious? What's WRONG with you?"

Yes i'm serious. What's wrong with you? LOL!

reply

"fantastical claims"

Um, the T-800 walked up to Dyson, took off its jacket and proceeded to cut and pull off the flesh from it's OWN ARM, revealing a metallic skeleton underneath, and you say that??

Are you saying Dyson thought it was FAKE!?!?!?!

As I said, "what's wrong with you?"

Oh, and persist with this bullshit, and I'll have no option but to Ignore you.

reply

"Um, the T-800 walked up to Dyson, took off its jacket and proceeded to cut and pull off the flesh from it's OWN ARM, revealing a metallic skeleton underneath, and you say that??

Yes fantastical claims. Realistically most people would not simply believe wholesale a story of nuclear genocide of man kind and time traveling robots because a guy shows you his mechanical arm. The family would be absolutely devastated and in no way feel "honored" or "understanding of Dyson's coerced "sacrifice".

"Oh, and persist with this bullshit, and I'll have no option but to Ignore you."

I'm having a hard time telling if you're being serious or not because such angst at someone having a different take on a pretty innocuous plot detail would be downright comical.

reply

No, I won't Ignore you, I'll just ignore you. T2 ROCKS as a movie.

reply

Terminator 2 being an excellent film is beside the point. Discussing the disturbing ramifications of one relatively minor plot detail has no bearing on how good the movie is

reply

You lost, dude.

reply

What the heck are you talking about? Lost what exactly? LOL! I hope this isn't just turning into incoherent trolling for who knows what reason.

reply

Foebane is a huge prick with low IQ, he doesnt understand how to debate, ignore the prick

reply

"To be fair the point was that Dyson sacrificed himself to save humanity just as the Terminator later did."

To be "fair" to who? Fair to what? Dyson was a character in a Terminator film who died. Lots of characters in Terminator films died, most with far less dignity. What exactly was owed to the Dyson character or the actor who played him?

reply

It really seems to me you are ignoring the message the movie has and the point I was making and just putting your own politics into everything. If you hate this movie and what happened in it, then don't waste your time constantly complaining about it on this message board!

reply

I don't hate T2. I think it's a solid B+ or so, vastly inferior to T1. I didn't inject any politics that I didn't see inferred in the original post. I'm just curious as to what ethic of "fairness" is being applied to this character and why.

reply

I just meant Cameron had Dyson sacrifice himself to stop skynet. And that parallels with the Terminator sacrificing himself to stop skynet. That's the point I was making. That other poster insisted that Dyson should not have died but ignores that Dyson had to go with them for themto get into Cyberdyne. Dysonfelt he had to help them destroy his work.

reply

I agree with you. To spell it out, though, I gather that the implication by others is that Dyson's character was treated poorly and with indignity because he's black. I knew you were countering that suggestion, which was a lame and dumb one to begin with. I should've poked at a different reply...

reply

thats a pretty lightweight elephant in the room :)

reply

There's no elephant, just an idiot topic.

reply

My conjecture is that the OP, while clearly being facetious about it with the title, actually touches on a legit issue with the film which I already expanded on earlier.

reply

Did this guy also use robot parts from the future when inventing his kick-ass vacuum cleaners?
