field generated by living organisms

'field generated by living organisms'
nothing dead will go .

say what now?
Time travel machine - fine , but this "field" wtf is that? the Aura? thats bordering an fairy magic rather than science fiction.

EMF? magnatism? radiation? induction? the thing is , whatever this field is , it has to be something that couldnt be replicated by a machine ... which makes it sort of magic unobtaniumish.

Well that was how Kyle described it, but we also get the impression that he didn't really understand fully how it worked, so perhaps his description is inaccurate.

reply

It was so there were no futuristic weapons in the movie.

reply

Well yeah, I think most people know that, but for the sake of the plot all we know is what Kyle says and what we see.

reply

Imagine the scene just before he comes through time.

Scientist 1 ' You have got to be naked'.
Scientist 2 sniggers.
Kyle Reese 'What? Why'?
Scientist 1 'The field generated by living organisms, nothing dead will go through'.
Scientist 2 puts hand over mouth to stop loud guffaws.
Kyle 'So I can't take a weapon then'?
Scientist 1 'Afraid not'.
Scientist 2, tears streaming from suppressing his laughter 'Stop it, stop it. I can't take anymore'.

Kyle goes through time.
John Connor comes over and says 'Why are Kyles clothes still here'?
Scientist 1 'Oh, he said he was a bit warm'.

reply

lol, that was golden! Could have happened I guess, but it wouldn't explain why the Terminator also went back in time naked without weapons. Perhaps even machines in the future have a sense of humor and they played a similar trick on him as well.

reply

Or, Skynet didn't have time to dress him.

reply

I still insist the T-1000 could mimic human Flesh or else it wouldn't have come in naked.

reply

I agree. It's really the only explanation that makes the most sense.

reply

we are going to *have* to go with that, or the whole film falls into a giant plot hole, but ....

That just makes the magical mystery field even weirder. I mean , the moving liquid metal is pretty futuristic , but as an additional benefit it can not only look like human flesh , or anything else , but it has a "living field" wow! bonus! that was lucky or theyd have to send another flesh covered T800 back

Electromagnetism is the only field we emit. EM holds our atoms together, EM currents flow through our nervous systems, and our bodies emit heat through EM radiation. Ray guns, as Sarah calls them, and clothes do not emit EM fields. It's just a basic premise that Cameron and producer Gale Anne Hurd came up with so they could contrast the terminator and Kyle Reese; the terminator kills for resources while Kyle avoids conflict and steals his resources via stealth. So they needed to be naked and not arrive armed.
