Furlong made $30K for this?

I hope Cameron and/or the studio gave the poor kid a bonus after it did so well.

reply

When Macauley Culkin did Home Alone he was paid $20,000. I guess there's nothing new about Hollywood paying kid actors peanuts.

reply

That's cuz they spend all their money on drugs!

reply

Right. I’m sure the studios are only looking out for their best interests when they pay them in scraps.

reply

PAID IN ADVANCE FOR A ROLE IN A FILM WHICH COULD TURN OUT TO BE A FLOP.EVERYTHING IS A GAMBLE.

reply

Yeah but then he made $4.5 million for Home Alone 2. And $10 million I believe for Richie Rich.

reply

All inferior movies.

reply

Don't think he cares with that pay rise.

reply

Well he’d be stupid. His movies made over a billion and he didnt even make 20million.

reply

You can say that about any actor. Arnold only got paid $15 million for Terminator 2 and the movie made over half a billion at the box office, and closer to a billion with video rentals, DVDs and merchandise. Unless you're a producer or risking some of your own money, you're not going to get paid anything comparable to the box office gross.

reply

I had thought they didn't actually pay the kid actor all that money for him to spend. I thought it was more that they put it into a bank account that they can't use til they turn 18. But what do I know?

reply

True. The Jackie Coogan Law.
They can live off the earnings but the main sum stays in savings/investments.

reply

That's how it's supposed to work, but apparently the law allows the parents to withdraw a certain percentage of the kids' earnings for "living expenses". Some stage parents have withdrawn a hell of a lot more than the law allows, and apparently there's no enforcement so the kid's only legal recourse was to turn 18 and sue. By then, the money is usually spent, so there's no getting it back.

So yeah, any money given to Furlong would probably have been claimed by his trashy family and spent while he was still a kid, but that doesn't mean he didn't deserve some sort of bonus when the film hit it big. That happens, some actors get paid extra to publicize the film, or get given extravagant gifts by the studio when a film hits big.

reply

Ed Furlong wasn't the draw. Arnie was, the Terminator name was along with bringing back Linda Hamilton in a Terminator sequel.

Just like when everyone went mental over the guy from Captain Phillips. He got paid basic SAG rate for a no name.

This from an article,
"Abdi was paid just $65,000 for his work on the Tom Hanks film, a salary which he received two years ago. "

People were going bat shit about that. Like they expect a no name actor to get paid 20 million upfront for a film they didnt even know if would be successful.

Yeh they knew Terminator may be successful as much as they thought Predator 2 would be successful. But Furlongs name under the title doesnt really help that in any way so they get the usual SAG rate.

The Screen Actors Guild minimum for an actor is $60,000 — it’s the rate that Jonah Hill earned for “The Wolf of Wall Street and nobody went batshit at Scorcese or the numerous ovther cases where actors get paid minimum. Jonah Hill wasnt a no name, but the role could have been filled by 10 other people on his same level, just so happens he killed it and maybe the next film he asks for more if he is a supporting or side character.

Thing is if it is successful they get a bonus with all the interviews they get after promotion contract ends, merch and a whole list of things on something as big as T-2

reply

Jonah Hill offered to work for SAG minimum because he desperately wanted to work with Scorcese and Leo, and he knew that role and that movie would be huge for him. As he explained to Howard Stern "I took the minimum on that role, so that I could get $20 million for 22 Jump Street".

reply

Hopefully his contract entitled him to a percentage of residuals, or whatever.

reply

he's fat now

reply

Furlong was in that Terminator 2: Battle Across Time attraction at Universal Studios. I'm sure he made a good chunk of change.

reply

he also fucked some choice hollywood tail while looking like a garbage bag full of roast beef scraps

reply

Show some respect, you complete bastard! Furlong was in the excellent American History X!!

reply

Makes you wonder what he went through as a kid (knowing what Hollyweird is like) to use drugs and comfort eat despite being in the public eye.

reply

Probably nothing. The guy is just lazy as fuck.

reply

Eddie Fatlong

reply

That's not bad for a 13 y/o for his first movie. It would be $65,000 today.

reply

Pacino made the same amount in TGF2.

reply

No he didn't. He made $500k plus 10% of the profit. You're thinking of the first Godfather maybe.

reply

Most kids don't make as much as adults. Chandler Riggs was fired from Walking Dead because he turned 18 and they were unwilling to pay him an adult salary.

reply

Ouch. Not sure I believe that entirely though. Angus Jones was getting $4M a season on Two and a Half Men at 17.

reply

Most not all. For instance, I believe Gary Coleman was paid more than Conrad Bain for Different Strokes

reply

Yeah I meant about Riggs being fired over money. Gary Coleman was the other actor that came to mind.

reply

Wow that’s not much. He should have gotten a backend bonus.
