the twiggs seem very selfish

I personally think their actions were selfish. They were trying to find thier birth child as a way of grieving for the cild they had raised. It doesn't seem as though they had any consideration for kimberly though as she had been raised by mr mayes for most of her life and they pulled her out of what she was use to- her whole life everything'. i bet if arlena had survived that they wouldn't have allowed mr mayes to do the same thing. Very selfish actions in my opinion.

I completely agree. The Twiggs' action not only disrepected their love for Arlena (that she could be so easily replaced) but was also done out of selfishness to have another daughter. They never once seemed to consider what Kim needed and that it was wrong to take her from a loving home with the only man she knew as her father.

I also wonder how their other kids felt with their being so obsessed with Kim instead of focusing on them.

The biggest loser was Kimberly. As a 30 year old adult, she's had a history of well documented psychological and mental problems. She's really suffered and had her son taken away by the state. I also feel for Regina, who felt her daughter had been kidnapped and was forced to relinquish her by law. I think she has psychological problems, too. I read that her obsession with Kimberly did strain her family. Sometimes I feel like someone in that hospital must have known. Kimberly and Arlena were born 4 days apart after all, and Arlena was an ill baby. It doesn't add up.

The Twiggs obviously loved Arlena. She wouldn't have lived for nine years had she not been well cared for. Kimberly is reported to have said that Regina asked if she could call her "Arlena." On the surface that sounds incredibly creepy, but I think it's more of a sign of a mother in desperate need of psychological help. She'd lost two children to a heart ailment and then she finds her daughter and is denied visitation.
