Ellen Barkin

This was the movie that made me fall in love with Ellen Barkin.
She's got the cutest smile...

Yep. me too.
Though I liked her in Clinton & Nadine (changed to Blood Money after Bill Clinton became president), Johnny Handsome and Sea Of Love (hot love scene with Al Pacino), it was SWITCH that brought out Ellen's sensuality and sexuality. I also like Lorraine Bracco in Switch more than in anything else she's done.

I wasn't really familiar with Ellen Barkin before I saw her in Switch. I really liked her in that film.

One thing that drove me nuts though was her problem with walking in high heels. Its not as hard as she made it out to be, not after about an hour in them. Specially if the shoes fit.... But maybe that was just the way the director saw it.

This is one of the things that made the movie so funny. She did finally get the hang of it though.

Peace.

I would guess that it is hard to walk in high heels, at least at first. Walking in high heels is just walking on your toes, not tippy but, on the bottom of your toes and walking for any length. I just got to the scene of Ellen Barkin sliding down the banister  Ellen Barkin is playing a GUY who gets reincarnated as a woman and still has the mannerism of a guy, that is why the heels scenes are funny as are all the others of her acting like a guy.

Rearrange the letters in "mother in law" and you get "woman hitler"

Perosnally, I thought this was one of Ellen Barkin's most annoying performances.

Personally this was a wonderful performance by Ellen Barkin, who is a great actress, not seen often enough. Yes, she got recognized in Sea of Love, but I could have enjoyed SWITCH even if the dialog and scenes were only of her, and a blue screen behind her. Be sure not to watch her with Jeff Goldblum in MAD DOG TIME. She's just as gorgeous, just as funny, and just as interesting.

I miss Big Band music and talented singers. Leonard Cohen is my idol. Civility, harmony, unity!

-- Wait a minute. Be sure NOT to watch her? WTF?!

reply

Yikes -- did I say that? I plead altzheimer's disease at age 73 -- I meant to say "Be sure not to miss" MISS, not watch. I guess I'll hang up my PC. Wasn't persuading anyone of anything anyway.

Ellen Barkin is the sexiest woman alive

Check out her love scene in "The Big Easy." It's the hottest love scene in the movies while fully clothed.

I hadn't seen her since "Buckaroo Banzai" and was thoroughly floored by her performance here. Her male mannerisms were a hoot and "her" mixed reactions with other women were gems.

Gotta now go back and watch more of her performances. She's a hottie.

reply

Agreed! I wondered how she managed to take off the way men hold glasses for instance, or how a man would struggle with high heels - oh yes, it was not the director that wnated her/him to walk in them, but this is what a woman of her position would have been wearing in the office - simple;
yes I think she is great - the movie is such fun, light and the music is just perfect! - Both sides now - love it so much got the cd!!!
why don't they play this movie any more? not violent, brutal, ugly enough??

reply

That's a good point. I'm not a huge fan of the movie but I gotta give Ellen credit. Playing a woman who was a man with mixed mannerisms can't be the easiest role, but she played it pretty well. I love how she "adjusts" her boobs, just as if she was a man adjusting himself. LOL

I've liked her since I saw her in Desert Bloom... heart-wrenching movie.

reply

Every time I see this movie, I think about how I get tricked into believing there is a man trapped in her body. That's a real credit to her acting ability. You fooled me Ellen Barkin!
