How do Wiccans see the film

Isn't the movies portrayal of God/Goddess consistent with there viewpoint?

reply

Not really. Been awhile since I have seen the movie. Do you mean the God/Goddess that sent the main character back? If so that is the Christian God.

I have vague memories of a sort of spiritualist friend? If my memories are correct she is way off as well.

We do believe in a God and Goddess also known as the Mother and the Father also represented by the moon and the sun and they have many names perhaps best known as Danu and Cerrnunnos though there are other names and interpretations. There are also other gods in our religion.

Alas hollywood very rarely represent Wiccan's correctly. Wiccans after all are witches and most movies and television portray witches wrong, even if they are more positive they get the facts very wrong. For example the television series Charmed had very little in the way of showing a true witch or Wiccan.

There may well have been, but no that was not at all realistic either.

I wonder if there were true Wiccan's. There are many so called Neo-Pagans who tend to have adopted the religion in a way as a form of fashion rather than a serious religion, and there are a lot of these out there who say they are serious Wiccan's who actually do us more harm than good, perhaps these were the advisors?

The Craft had too much obvious magic in it. Wiccan spells are more akin to say the Christian prayers than actual showy magic.

Neo-Pagan is what Wiccan is. It didn't exist before the 1950s.

reply

Yes and no. the term Wiccan actually first came into use in the 19th century. there was a great Revival in the 1950's which most associate with Wiccan. But not all Wiccan's flow that tradition and neo-Pagan is something different altogether. More of a miss-mash of religions.
