Originally a Drama?

I remember seeing an interview with Pesci where he says the original script for The Super was not a comedy - the plot was basically the same but test screeners felt the film was too dark and controversial so the studio insisted they re-shoot some scenes and turn the film into a comedy.

Pesci insinuated that the original version was much, much better - which may not be saying much but does make me wonder about the original verion.

I'm going from memory so I may not be remembering the story exactly. Did anyone else hear about this?

Actually the movie was based on a real life court case where a wealthy super just kept insisting on paying the fine and not paying to clean the building. The lawyer for the city suggested to the judge that he make him stay in his own building... the case was highly publicized and some hot shots in Hollywood decided to make a movie based on it.

Actually, my dad was the original lawyer who made that suggestion. No lie, it's pretty cool =D I've grown up hearing the story, saw the old news stories, but still haven't seen this movie. I should watch it some time =D
