Why is no one discussing this classic?

Really, let's get some discussion going!

Here goes: the alpha cat represents the predatory imperative of market capitalism, and the Jarrets are the emblematic middle-class family mauled by their illusive dreams.

Plus, Kathleen Quinlan was really really good in this- a shining moment in her career!

If you really love this movie and are looking for symbolism you might like "Feral", a novel by Berton Roueche..I suspect it is 'related to' this movie. It came out in 1974. Maybe the copyright ran out or rights were sold. He used to specialize in medical history type books. Recognizing the possibility that cats and those who love them might read "Feral", the blurb on the copy I read talks about some kind of fancy symbolism about man and nature. (This comment is from a cat.)

Referring to this movie as a classic made me laugh out loud.

Because it made absolutely no sense. You were not given anything to go on to guess at what was happening with the cats. I thought at first there was something supernatural happening, but nothing came of it. If the writer(s) were thinking that this would be kind of like "The Birds", they missed. In that movie there were some things that you could think of as reasons why the birds might be attacking(children singing loudly in the school, the captive lovebirds) or other things. In the 1977 movie, "The Pack"/The Long Dark Night, it was clearly put out in the movie that the cruelty of being abandoned as pets was the likely reason for the dogs attacking. But this movie gave us nothing to go on. For me it was frustrating and made the movie uninteresting.
