I remember reading a book called 'Feral' which was a paperback from the 70s or 80s that very closely followed the events of this movie. I only see that this was a script written by Shaun Cassidy (a great writer), but I don't see if this was based on a book.

Sounds like an awesome read. That is where this movie failed. No possible reasons were put out as to why the attacks occurred.
