What was the point of the woman dumping her medicine??

I forget the character's name now, but it was the oldest woman. She dumps her medication in a river or pond towards the end.
What was that scene supposed to mean?

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

I believe she was also the one who spoke of not wanting to die in a hospital or retirement home.

I think her character was ready to die and thought there would be a good place to do it.

That certainly sounds possible. I cannot blame her for not wanting to die in those places! I'd rather be dead than live in a nursing home. And dying in a hospital sounds even worse.

Thanks for your reply.

She also said she didn't have long to live. I think being able to see where she was happiest satisfied her. The movie "Trip to Bountiful" is very similar.

It's so refreshing to read a nice post about this movie written by a man! I can't believe the foolish men or rather, BOYS, who bother to come here and post rude comments about a film that's obviously not 'their type of film'. Idiots all of them; and people wonder why many women hate men...those fools are the perfect example. It'd be like me going to see a Comic Book Super Hero movie, hating it then going to the kiddy sites and blasting it for being what it was. But, women don't typically do that...they're sensitive to others' lives and others' experiences. This was just the sweetest movie I've ever seen. I gave it a 10!

When I watched the movie, I thought she was basically saying yes to dying.

But I watched the director's commentary afterwards and no, the scene was meant to show Constance was saying no to the medicine due to it making her drowsy and unalive. Later she is shown playing cards, and in a happy, playful mood and laughing out loud.
