This movie reminds me of NAS's Illmatic album

If you have absorbed this classic rap album, you may have also noticed that it seems to very much mirror Straight Out Of Brooklyn.

Here's one of the many lyrics that apply: "The buck that bought a bottle coulda struck the lotto."

And he phrases: "Packin' like a Rasta in the weed spot..." which conjures the camouflage-coat-clad Jamaican robbery victim.

Or: "It's real, grew up in trife life, the times of white lines/ The hype vice, murderous nighttimes and knife fights invite crimes/ Chill on the block with Cognac, hold strap/ With my peeps that's into drug money, market into rap."

Yes, this movie is from 1991 while Illmatic came out in 1994, but many of the songs seem to embody the everyday life shown in the film. Not as cartoony as the album, but the songs make for a good soundtrack to the housing project visuals.
