Where's the DVD!?

What's up with Paramount? This great little comedy was released back in '91, but still isn't on dvd. I know it certainly wasn't a commercial success by any means, but I have to think that it has an audience out there. It features Liza Minnelli, a huge star as well as an Oscar winning actress, and it was released by Paramount, a huge studio. Why the long delay for the dvd? Any other fans out there agree.....?

I definitely agree! This is an excellent film. Cannot understand why its not gone to DVD but when it does I'm gonna be first in the queue!

by the time Paramount get their act together there will be a new format !!!!!!!!!!!

Have to agree as well - I was lucky enough to get hold of a VHS transfer to DVD but would very much like the real mccoy - anyone one know anything about a release?

reply

Maybe if enough of us petition paramount they might relent and release this on dvd.

That final scene when they return for the benefit show, tapping in time and with their little solo parts is fantastic. Ive literally worn out the tape watching it over and over again.

Julie Walters performance is outstanding.

Canes to me canes to me!!!

"Canes to me canes to me!!!" LOL.

One of my favorite moments in a very entertaining movie that absolutely deserves to be on DVD. This movie never found its audience! Come on, Paramount!

(And while you're at it, finally release "Sterile Cuckoo" and "Junie Moon," Liza's two other Paramount movies.)

reply

Yeah, considering the IMO awful movies that have been put on dvd, I'm surprised that this never made it. Not only is it a great movie, but it has one the the best collections of comic talent.

I agree! I absolutely LOVE this film and my VHS tape is nearly worn out! Needs to be on DVD. The mystery to me is that Paramount releases nearly all their titles good, bad, hits, flops. Why not 'Stepping Out'? My theroy is music rights which usually holds up most DVD releases. Perhaps the original music by Kander & Ebb is too pricey to justify a DVD release. I could be wrong but, at any rate a DVD release is way overdue.

"Hats and canes? You're asking for trouble!" :)

I totally agree with everyone! It's inforgivable that it's not available!!! I'm going to start a Facebook group to petition it be released!

reply

This is ridiculous. Almost 2010 and this movie still hasn't been released on DVD. Perhaps there's some issue with the music rights or something.
Anyway, I'd like to see a special edition with an in-depth making of featurette - all the key cast and crew should be available (including Lewis Gilbert, who's almost 90 and still kicking).
Come on Paramount, Do it.

I will be glad to see the gem of a movie come out on DVD. I have a VHS copy bought from a video rental store. that is still in good shape. it is too bad this movie gets over looked to come out on DVD.

I am astounded that this is not available I searched today for it thinking it would be a slam dunk that I would be able to get a copy searched on amazon uk and us and on ebay nothing.

I love this film all the characters are brilliant what a shame will have to make do with my tape from the TV. May be one day ...
