Cold War Politics - then and now

I know this was to be a symbolism between the bringing together the U.S. and Russia, but with the events this week regarding Cuba, it is equally fascinating how real-life policy still mirrored those of this movie.

We had Pope Francis starting a dialog and playing mediator, much like Mr. Spock did in the movie. Then you had the hardliners, specifically Florida Senator Marco Rubo, practically reciting verbatim Admiral Cartwright's dissent on open dialog and relations with the current regime. Perhaps President Obama should send Rubio as it's first emissary to Cuba the way the Federation sent Kirk! 
