why did they go aboad with out an escort ?
why did Kirk and Bones go on that cruiser with out any security? they could have stopped them being arrested

Not likely. Maybe up to 100 Klingons on that ship, versus a few security? Feh. Plus if they'd shown up "in force" like that they probably would have been immediately attacked as invaders, etc. And Kirk was trying to make a point.
