What Was Valeris Going To Do...

...When she was creeping into the room after the assassins were found dead?

No one knew they were dead except for Scotty, Spock, and Bones. Remember the ship-wide announcement that said that statements were going to be taken from Burke and Samno (the assassins)? It was a trap designed to lure the remaining conspirator out into the open, as they knew that the conspirator would panic and seek to kill the two assassins before they gave statements, seeing that they must have somehow survived the first attempt to silence them. Valeris fell into their trap.

I am not a fan. I just happen to enjoy movies. Fans are embarrassing.

I thought Valeris was the one who killed the assassins.

She wasn't sure, she may have done the deed but didn't have the me to make sure they were dead.. When the announcements for a stenographer was made ship wide guess she panicked

reply

I see. I'd question the likelihood of a Vulcan panicking but then again, she didn't seem like a typical Vulcan.

I guess she panicked logically?... LoL
Unfortunately not much info was given about Valeris, it was originally supposed to be Saavik and as half Romulan her behavior might had more 'excuse', but then Star Trek The Final Frontier showed that even a full Vulcan [Sybok] can reject his suppression of emotions .

reply

That would've sucked if they made Saavik into a traitor. I didn't know she was half Romulan.

Yeah, I can't remember all the details but Roddenberry or some script writers let the producers know that it wasn't a great idea to use Saavik as a traitor since she was a beloved character amongst Trek fans so it was changed

reply

When Christian Slater randomly turned up I thought he was going to be the traitor. I thought, "Why else would he be in the movie?"

Christian Slater is a Big Star Trek fan... So he pleaded to producers to be anywhere in the movie, he was a medium rising star back then, kind of like a second rate Tom Cruise ....
Too bad he wasn't seen more on the Excelsior, like on the bridge instead of waking up the captain at odd hours when calling him on the intercom would be sooo easy 🤔

reply

Yeah I had to look up why he was even in the movie. I watched some interview on one of those late shows and Slater said his mother was casting the movie so that's how he got in it. It was basically a cameo.

Wow I must have read that script cause this whole time
I thought it was saavik. I remember getting into my discusion with my father who said he figured she was the traitor all along because she was the only new character to show up in the movie to which I said it was saavik but they switched actors. IE that made the story more tragic as spock appeared to be grooming her to take over his role.
