Great Film

I love this story about General Custer and the events that led to his Last Stand. I used to watch it as a kid and I've grown up watching it. I think Cole was great as the famous General. The first five minutes (particulary the tone of Benteens voice when he says 'Mistakes were made' and when they find the remains of the annihilated calvary)and the final battle (Little Bighorn) always leave a lasting impression and send chills up my spine whenever I watch it. Great film, 10/10.

Agreed - this film also has an unforgettable sense of time and place, too bad they don't make enough films like it.

I just saw it again for the first time since it originally aired on TV. Being someone who has dedicated much of the last 18 years studying history and the American West, I was very impressed with it overall. Extremely high quality for a TV mini-series/film.

Yikes....

Whatever.

I wouldn't say it was a great movie, but for it's historical accuracy, and attempt to be objective, I think it was the best movie ever made about Custer and the LBH.

I love this film. Some years back I was reading a message board - seems like it was a Dances With Wolves board - anyway a poster was in a McDonalds near the battlefield. Some friends came in and after the burgers and shakes the group decided to visit a truly haunting place - it was Halloween . The most haunted place they could think of was the battlefield....It was cold and clear and off they went. There was frost on the ground and a full moon. They got really spooked when the claimed they could see the outlines of lodges in the ground.
