For daytime soap fans what are the soap references!
-Celeste is based on Susan Lucci -The character "Bolt" was named in vain of "Ridge Forrester" on "The Bold and the Beautiful". -They mention that the soap opera "Laguna Beach" is doing very well in the ratings and beating them out. This clearly is reference to the soap "Santa Barbara".
What other soap references did they make that you caught?
Barbara Stanwyck and I used to ride the trolley! ~Andrea Zuckerman
Yeah the only reason that I figured out about the Ridge reference is because Brad Bell the head writer of the The Bold and the Beautiful talks about how his father the late Bill Bell was not very fond of the joke in his biography "The Young and Restless Life of William Bell".

I'm surprised no one caught the reference at the awards ceremony when they play the clip of the woman at the board meeting. Totally taken from Dynasty when Joan Collins tells them she's taking over and they're all fired.
But are you sure she was Susan Lucci? Celeste won a ton of Schmemmys and Susan never won any before Soapdish. It might be a small detail but it's pretty huge.
I always thought that Celeste was supposed to be emulating Erika Slezak whose character of Victoria Lord was the "misery queen of soaps" while being quite kind; I don't think that Fields' character of Maggie was a vixen, just not very lucky in love or life other than being wealthy but miserable, thanks to the writers. However, because Susan Lucci is more famous with the general public than Slezak, Field's character is made to be more over the top which is how Lucci played Erica more often than not. Unless going in and out of her other characters within Vicki's split personality, Slezak never over-did it.
"Great theater makes you smile. Outstanding theater may make you weep."
I don't know, I mean, even Jill went through phases of being a total b to being a kind person, which can be said about most characters, so in the end I wonder who it might be.
