I was just wondering, for those of you who really liked this film, what other movies are your favorites and can you think of any movies that have a similar feel/'vibe' as Slacker??

This is a good intro into French new wave cinema from the 60's.
shareLet's not forget the drifter Johnny's pseudo-intellectualism genius in Mike Leigh's "Naked". Obviously much darker and ominous than Slacker, but a new breed of great intellectual dialogue.

Well not sure if the prefix 'neo' is necessary as intellect does not pertain to any particular age. As for Johnny, I think he was as I said a potential intellectual but due to the sexual-abuse he suffered at the hands of his mother, his intelligence got distorted beyond measure so as to comprehend good from bad and so despite having the calibre, he could not channel it onto something constructive and hence not contribute to society. The night-watchman realizes it and tells him not to waste himself. I know such people exist and they live outside the conventional society which labels them as insane or vile. As for his diagnosis, IMO he was a twisted case of Stockholm-syndrome; himself being abused in childhood so he recognized his own self as an abuser and, of course, found a vent in raping women (as he saw in them perhaps his mother?). share

This film kinda reminded me of Waking Life. The whole feel of the movie was like a constant streaming dream.
