Is it possible...

...to have a sense of smell as good as Hannibal Lecter's?

I highly doubt it. In general the movie portrayed him as something close to superhuman. Which, it was an enjoyable performance, but yeah you gotta suspend disbelief a little bit.
I also found the scene where he escaped to be a little far fetched as well. He manages to overpower two armed guards and string one of them up all by himself!
Undoubtedly. I had a friend with a super-keen sense of smell, one of her hobbies was collecting and enjoying perfumes. She appreciated the variations in scent the way other people appreciate subtleties of music.

FYI she said that in daily life, a super-keen sense of smell was anything from an inconvenience to a torment.

I would say, yes, of course. Rare, but yes.

There are species on this planet that naturally have a very keen sense particular to their specie. Owls and other birds of prey with sight, canines and their smell, others (including canines) with hearing.

There are some humans with a sense or ability well beyond the average. Add to that those ten documented humans with extraordinary memory ("hyperthymesia"), like the actress Marilu Henner.

So yeah, of course some humans have a sense of smell way, way above the norm. If the odor can travel, it can be detected, including by living creatures.
