Manhunter vs The Silence Of The Lambs

Both in my opinion, easily the best Hannibal films but which is better?

I prefer Silence. Manhunter is a good movie but never feels as satisfying to me, and it's got this overriding 80s vibe that I can live with but is slightly distracting. The first time I saw Silence I really loved it but Manhunter took me two or three watches to get in to. I also don't find Will Graham anywhere near as compelling a protagonist as Clarice Starling. Just my opinion though, I'm sure other people have different ones.

I prefer Will Graham over Clarice Starling. After all, Will was the one who caught Hannibal Lecter in the first place. Not to mention, Will is the only one in the franchise that rivals Hannibal Lecter in terms of intelligence, and can empathize with other serial killers as well. Clarice is only interesting because of Hannibal. Without Hannibal, Clarice wouldn't be all that interesting really. Where as with Manhunter, that was pretty much a Will Graham movie, and was able to carry that on his own for the most part, without relying too much on Hannibal. So Will Graham is the better character in my books.

I like both films, but prefer Manhunter, mainly because I found Graham and Dollarhyde more interesting than Starling and Gumb.

I love both films, but Silence of the Lambs is much more satisfying. Manhunter is a fascinating film with great atmosphere and style, but it doesn't quite hit the perfect note for me in the same way that Silence of the Lambs does.
