i realize i've been an imdb member for approximately 10 yrs. i was debating on what my 1st post should be and i decided on TSOTL. i have a few questions that i'm curious to know the answers to.
the followeing regards hannibal lecter.
1. when dr. chilton is talking to lecter and telling him to identify buffalo bill or he'd never leave his cell is this lecter anthony hopkins?
2. (similar to above): when lecter is talking to senator ruth martin is this lecter anthony hopkins?
it's hard for me to tell in both cases. to me these two look different from anthony hopkins.
another thing i'm curious about:
when you see starling, crawford, (and a few othere), putting this stuff above their upper lips. what is it and what purpose does it serve?

Not quite sure what you're asking with the first two questions... Are you asking if someone is standing in for Hopkins in these scenes?

The lip/nose stuff is something to disguise the smell of the corpse that they are examining.

These are the only words I have, I'm stuck with them, stuck in them

It was Anthony Hopkins in both cases, no stunt doubles. Hope this helps. The answer to your last question, I'm not exactly sure what the exact name for it is, but the purpose it serves is to block out the smell from the dead woman's body.

The stuff they put around their nose was Vick's Vaporub, which is a strong scented ointment used to clear the nasal air passages. In this case it is used to mask the smell of the decomposing body.

The stuff on the upper lip is Preparation H.

It isn't - Preparation H doesn't have a smell that could mask anything.

Why would he need a stunt double for those scenes?

In the book they used Vicks VapoRub to mask the smell of the decaying body.
