I would have liked some authenticity!

I started out watching this film and thought it was sort of cute and mildly entertaining. I liked the idea of John Travolta's character bringing "rock-n-roll" to these isolated youth, however, why couldn't they have used blues/r-n-b/rock-n-roll that is ACTUALLY from that time period? The only song that seemed semi appropriate is when John Travolta is in the bar and puts a song on, only to have it cut off my the sheriff. I also found that while the men had a pretty good idea of how to dress 1950's (early 1960's) appropriately, what was UP with Gwynthew and Heather's long hair? They wouldn't have worn their hair like that in that time period. I guess I'm just picky when it comes to things like this, but these inaccuracies ruined the movie for me.

The lack of authenticity ruined the movie for me too. The hair and clothes were definitely not from the '50s, and most of the music was from a much later period. Also, no one here speaks like they were from Texas. And did anyone really buy that these were youths in reform school? They had way too much polish and too little edge. This is at best an entertaining TV-type movie and at worst a misguided attempt to capture an era by someone who probably didn't live it. This seems typical of the films John Travolta was making before "Pulp Fiction" made him hip again.

I thought it was okay, but nothing too great. However, the one thing that kinda bothered me is that if Sara was in (2nd or 3rd year?) college (that would make her at least 19 or 20, right?), wouldn't she be a little old for him? I assume he was under 18 if he was in reform school... Not that big of a deal, but it made me wonder...

Good point. That would have been statutory rape if they had sex. If they waited a few years, it wouldn't have been such a big deal.

maybe, but I'd have drilled her anyway! :)
