Somewhat underrated?

To me this movie contains all of the elements (music, teens, romance, rebellion) as films like Dirty Dancing and That Night and yet it was a 'flop'? I discovered it on video in Australia and enjoyed it (as much as I did the two) but I have read some HORRIBLE reviews of it.

I think it's judged a little harshly - perhaps becase John Travolta was involved?

I would agree that it's underrated. I mean it's no classic, but its a good watch.

I could watch it again. The script had a LOT of holes - how did all those boys locked up all day get out anytime they wanted at night? how are all those guys getting in Sarah's room with Daddy around? - but the music was really good, the setting and photography were good and the characters were interesting. Heather Graham was really cute, and Richard Jordan looked really good in a workshirt and jeans - interesting that among all those teens, the guy with the best bod was over 50 at the time.

A very underrated movie, sure there was a few things wrong with it but on the whole it had great music , a very heart warming story and a great cast.i loved it and can't wait till it comes out on blu-ray !

Unfortunately, I disagree.
Poorly executed cornball teen romance with too many plot holes.
Incredibly bad instrumental simulation by Travolta and his teen costars. I've seem more believable playing in air guitar contests.
John Travolta was cashing a pay check on the downside until he hit Pulp fiction 3 years later.

I am watching it now, I had never heard of it before today and I really like Travolta films. I love seeing all the actors when they were just little babes.
