Does anyone know the connection between this film and the REM song 'Binky The Doormat''?

Michael Stipe just likes the movie and frequently uses titles that doesn't have anything to do with the lyrics. That's about it, it's basically an "in" joke.

I read in a book that they wrote the song after watching the movie. At least Michael wrote the lyrics after seeing the movie.

Film was distributed by IRS Media... REM's record label was IRS
