Good Adaptation ruined by a bad ending

. . . Why? Why did they have to tack on that stupid ending!?!?! The movie was a relatively fine adaptation of the book from nearly start to finish, but then, then they have to try and make him Damien from the Omen!

It just majorly ticked me off! It was really good up until the last ten minutes when it completely digresses from the book. I mean, he's the Antichrist? Just like that? This kid who was completely innocent at the beginning suddenly experiences a complete personality swap at the end?
There's no hints throughout to imply he's the Antichrist, just after everything's over "Blaah I am!"

The book was the best because it was just so ambiguous that it was up for the reader to decide. Personally, it came off to me as "Ho-ho we'll never know!" and I liked that! I mean this wasn't much of a plot twist, it was just unnecessary and stupid.
Seriously, this kid can control bats, resurrect dogs and people, and make people have deadly spasms. . .How come he couldn't just protect everyone he loved from the beginning? How come he could just have that church set on fire or something?
I mean he can resurrect a decapitated dog and he can't mentally set a building on fire? Or people for that matter! Why didn't he just have his attackers spontaneously combust? Or have heart attacks? It's like the power had to develop inside of him, he was able to resurrect his dog ten minutes into the movie, he should have been able to kill off all those fanatics with a snap of his finger.

God this ending really made me mad. I hated it so much because I was enjoying the film until this piece of crap ending came up. It was almost as bad as when I read the ending to Tick Tock.

I'm glad to hear the book doesn't have the literal ending this film forces on the story. I expected an "Is he or isn't he?" ending rather than a "He most certainly is" ending. This was fairly entertaining and certainly could have been worse, but most horror adaptations are disappointing.

Agree. I read the book YEARS ago when I was in the army and thought it was really good. Unlike the ending. P U .... it stunk.

Very well said I just watched this the other night and was incredibly put off by the Omen-esque ending. I was so confused I had to go get my copy of the book and re-read the ending just to assure myself it wasn't as stupid as the movie. It's not. And I after re-reading it I sat there and thought about the ambiguity. You know if we're gonna go with the "kid has supernatural powers" idea, then why do we just assume he's evil? Maybe he's an angel!

But yeah other than that it was a pretty good adaption. The ending does ruin everything though.

I don't know... in the book, Koontz definitely alludes that Joey is the anti-Christ. I was sure at the time that he would have written a sequel to expand on that. The movie just took the liberty of leap-frogging to that assumption... I liked the ending :)
