better adaptation

I just finished reading the book and couldn't put it down. And the whole time, I thought it would make a really good movie. Then I just saw there was a 1991 film version made. I watched about 15 minutes so far, and it's pretty laughable. The acting isn't great, and even the quality is mediocre. The whole time I was reading the novel, I kept picturing this as the cast:

Christine Scavello...RACHEL MCADAMS
Charlie Harrison...JUSTIN BARTHA
Grace Spivey...DEBORAH RUSH
Henry Rankin...BRECKIN MEYER

I think this would have produced a much better version.

Did you mean "would have" or "would", because in 1991, I think most of those actors would have been a little young:

Rachel McAdams - 13 years old
Justin Bartha - 13 years old
Breckin Meyer - 17 years old

Brains are good, especially when sauteed with carmelized onions.
