Just an awful movie...

I had to watch this for civics class. Was just three hours of boredom.

Emos aren't fun to hang around with... Unless they're Peter Parker!

My students had it for 5 days when I was filling in for a teacher on strike. Great movie for Black History Month in civics class. My son was one of the students and had already seen it at home where it provoked lively discussion as it did in school.

Boo hoo. You sat on your duff in class for 3 hours, watched a movie about an important era in US history, and learned nothing; except perhaps one can't educate a closed mind. Maybe if the teacher had served popcorn, you would have liked the movie better.

pinewoodpotter, I realize that you haven't made a comment on IMDb since 2011, so you may no longer be in a position to see this reply. Nevertheless...

Have you considered the possibility that the problem wasn't that the movie was "awful," but that you were just not interested in the subject matter at that time of your life? Perhaps a certain level of maturity is required to appreciate a movie like this. If you were in high school, you may not have had the breadth of experience or the depth of understanding to be captured by the struggle depicted in this film.

Now that you're eight years older, and presumably (hopefully) have a better grasp on the injustices that have plagued our country (and still do), it might be interesting for you to watch this movie again, and see if you respond differently to it now. (Bear in mind that it is a relatively "slow, talky" movie; if you have a low tolerance for films with that kind of pacing, and require constant action, then I would suggest that you're still not ready for a re-viewing and re-evaluation of Separate But Equal.)

It's 8 years later and you've grown up some I imagine. I would love to have you read this, watch it again and see you post your current response. I would think you would have somewhat a different viewpoint. Would be interesting to find out.
