What's the deal with the brother?

I just caught this movie the other night. It was pretty good for the early 90's, but I can't believe that I had never even heard of it.

Anyways, I'm just wondering what everyone's thoughts were on Alex's evil twin brother? I'm guessing that his shadyness was just a ploy to throw us off track. He's an @ss, but he has nothing to do with Angie's situation. Is this the impression that everyone else got, or do you think it goes deeper?

Purely misdirection. I think that is one of the reasons it isn't rate that highly. Adding a creepy (twin?) brother that leads nowhere doesn't add anything to the movie.

Hitchcock was famous for always having a red herring. Since this was originally submitted to Alfred Hitchcock presents that's why.
